Amberton Beach – Autonomous Bus Trial

The Amberton Beach Autonomous Bus Trial is a pioneering collaboration between Stockland and The University of Western Australia (UWA), bringing next-generation transport technology to the Amberton Beach community in Eglinton, WA.

This three-year public road trial features nUWAy, Perth’s first locally developed driverless bus operating along a dedicated route between Marmion Avenue and the Amberton Beach Bar and Kitchen.

Equipped with RTK-enhanced GPS, LiDAR scanners, and advanced collision avoidance systems, the trial provides residents with a unique opportunity to experience autonomous transport in a real-world setting. Beyond the passenger experience, the initiative supports critical research into driverless technology, including public trust, user behaviour, and long-term adoption.

Cossill & Webley supported the project by coordinating key stakeholders, including UWA and Stockland, compiling compliance documentation, undertaking risk assessments and preparing the Autonomous Vehicle Submission. Our team also facilitated in obtaining the final Approval to Operate from the Department of Transport WA.
