Kala

Kala

Kala is a masterplanned residential community in Pakenham East, within Melbourne’s expanding south-east corridor. The project includes around 500 lots and sits within the Pakenham East Precinct Structure Plan. A defining feature of the project is a central green spine that integrates a waterway and local park.

Cossill & Webley are providing design and construction management services for the project. To unlock Stage 1 of the project requires several key infrastructure upgrades, including the deceleration lane on Princes Hwy, upgrades to Mount Ararat South Road to an interim standard, and construction of new water mains along Princes Hwy and Mount Ararat South Road.

In collaboration with SIG and the project’s hydrologist, Cossill & Webley are working to optimise the wetland retarding basin footprint, which requires extensive liaison with Melbourne Water. The wetland footprint will ultimately determine the location of the future sewer pump station.

To enable Stage 1 & 2 to be delivered ahead of the sewer pump station, an interim sewer servicing strategy was developed. This involved the construction of a temporary sewer crossing whilst meeting minimum cover requirements – a strategic solution that unlocked the projects early stages.
